How To Use Social Media Effectively For Your Business with Andréa Jones

Andréa Jones is a social media strategist and host of the Savvy Social Podcast. Andréa helps business owners in the wellness space and beyond use social media to effectively grow and promote their businesses and get out of social media overwhelm and anxiety.

In this episode, she shares her top tips to use social media to your advantage.

How To Start Out Strong on Social Media

When first starting out on social media, you want to focus on five key categories for the first six months.

These categories are:

  • Promotional content
  • Educational content
  • Community-building posts
  • Entertainment
  • Engagement

Over that initial span, you want to evaluate what’s resonating with your audience and what’s not, and adjust your content accordingly.

Content Creation & Engagement Are Both Necessary for Growth

It takes a combination of both content creation and engagement with other creator’s content to see a return on the effort you put into social media, and it has to be consistent.

Andréa suggests setting defined limits to the amount of time you spend on social media, including no more than an hour per week on content creation and 15-30 minutes per day on engagement.

Despite what we often think, it’s actually the engagement, not the content creation that is most crucial to growth, so don’t skip it!

The Keys To Long Term Social Media Success

Besides a lack of consistency, when it comes to using social media to actually get results for your wellness business, there are a few common mistakes people make.

One of the most common is making either too many, or too few asks of your audience.

Engaging your audience in social media is a lot like going on a first date, and our job as content creators is to woo our potential followers and over time to build up the know, like and trust factor with them.

Too many asks too early can scare them off, but too few likely means that you’re leaving clients, customers, and profit on the table.

Andréa suggests finding a 4 to 1 ratio between giving and asking with your content in order to maximize the results for your business.

When used effectively, social media can be one of the most powerful tools to gain new clients and customers for your business. By following Andréa’s tips, you can spend less time on social media and get more results.

What is your relationship to social media? Is it something you love that adds value to your life and business, something you avoid, or something else entirely? Leave me a voice message to have your response featured on an upcoming episode.
