When Mary Shelley penned her supremely famous Gothic novel, Frankenstein, she may have been attempting to tunnel away from any sense of divine intervention within the confines of a scientific story, replete with human error. But was she really trying to do that? And did her mention of “Prometheus“ in the book's actual title signify that she was aware of the structural underpinnings of the fall of man, from the creation of the world?
