Cubs fans of a certain age remember exactly where they were for the “Sandberg Game”. The Cubs trailed the rival St. Louis Cardinals 7-1 after just two innings on June 23, 1984. Ryne Sandberg led a valiant comeback, hitting two late home runs. The Cubs eventually won the game 12-11 after 11 innings. Sandberg ended up with five hits, and seven runs batted in. 40 years later, the Cubs are unveiling a Ryne Sandberg statue.
“Ryno” joined Bob Sirott and Dave Eanet to talk about how much it means to him to be the fifth Cubs players to have a statue erected outside Wrigley Field. He also provides a health update, and shares some of his favorite memories of playing for the Cubs.
