Is there Life After Death
II Corinthians 5:1, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: 3 If so, be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. 4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. 5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. 6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
Where Do I Go After I Die? Job asked this question in 14:14, “If a man die, shall he live again?”
There are three quick things I want you to see.
I. We are going to die physically – Romans 5:12 says, “Whereby, as by one man’s sin entered the world, & death by sin; and so, death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”
“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” V. 1
II Cor. 4:16, “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish; yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”
II. We are all going to exist SUPERNATURALLY – V. 2. “For in this we groan.”
What happens when a Christian dies? Soul Sleep? Purgatory? The Bible answers that, V. 8, “To be absent from the BODY is to be PRESENT with the Lord.” V. 3, “If so being clothed, we shall not be found naked.”
III. We are going to live ETERNALLY –
V. 5, “Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the EARNEST of the Spirit.” II Cor. 5:5
I Cor. 15:51, “Behold, I show you a mystery, We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed. 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”
What if I’m not a Christian? Look at what it says in Luke 16:22, “It came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by angels into Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried and in Hell he lifted up his eyes. And he lifted up his eyes being in torment, and seeth Abraham afar off.”
