Blissful Hiker dips a toe back into backpacking for a few days on the Superior Hiking Trail in Northern Minnesota and discovers her bliss can still be found on the trail.
In this episode:
- Feeling a bit like Simone Biles on the beam, she simplifies things, going back to the basics on an easy trail, close to home and roads and for a manageable distance.
- The SHT marches up Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior on the edge of the boreal forest on some of the oldest rock in the world of rhyolite and basalt.
- Her start is random at Cascade National Park, and the best part is being able to walk south just as far as she likes.
- Raspberries and thimbleberries are in season and the trail is silent except for birds, wind and water, no need to yell out for bears.
- The trail is steeply up and down, but only for short distances, the high "balds" offering spectacular views.
- She shares a campsite with a mother and son and connects immediately, their kindness and obvious joy in hiking help heal the trauma-induced stress.
MUSIC: Poema del Pastor Coya by Angel Lasala as played by Alison Young, flute and Vicki Seldon, piano.
