Why can't breaking up just be sad, or disappointing or unexpected? What's with the abandonment all of a sudden? How has this 1 person suddenly become the cumulative event of a lifetime, whether we were together for 3 months or 3 years? Why do we feel like we've been left to fend for ourselves against an alien and scary world out there?
