Most Christians are familiar with what is often term the Great Commission recorded in Matthew 28. But Jesus gives direct orders to his disciples several times between the day of his rising from the dead and his physical ascension into heaven. In fact his direct orders are given to the gathered Apostles and other believers with them in the room where they were gathered behind locked doors. The event and the summary substance of the conversation is recorded in John 20:19ff and Luke 24:44ff.
The authority for the mandate is given and Jesus teaches them in detail how he was written about in the Scriptures- the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms. Proclaiming Jesus as the Messiah and his fulfillment of these writings by retell events from his life, ministry and the sufferings and death, burial and resurrection was the message. He gave them the promised Holy Spirit to accompany their words of witness.
