We are told, actually commanded, to engage in singing in the worship of God. Singing must be in conformity to God's Word and should contain a lot of the Scripture truth. Psalms exhort us to praise God with singing and music (Psalm 149:1-2; Psalm 95:1-2). The New Testament commands expand the role of singing to engagement with our fellow worshippers.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Ephesians 5:18b-20 be filled with the Spirit,  addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart,  giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,  submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Illustrations of this is offered from some portions of recent services showing engagement of prayer through singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to the Lord and to one another.
