Today's show makes the somewhat funny point that Sense is not Common!

The definition of common sense refers to having sound judgment, not necessarily based on specialized knowledge. When you are smart, level-headed, and able to understand and assess a situation, this is an example of having a lot of common sense. Sound judgment not based on specialized knowledge.

Are you born with common sense?

No way are you born with common sense that simply manifests itself as you grow up! You need to learn: 1) what your culture considers sound judgment; and 2) behave accordingly. This is nowhere near as obvious and easy as it seems to the more levelheaded adults in our society

How do you get common sense?

Common sense is sound, practical judgment that's usually developed through life experience rather than any kind of formal training. Developing common sense can seem like a difficult thing, but you can easily practice using common sense by being more aware and reflecting on situations before you make decisions.

Here are some tips on how to Apply some basic sense to your decisions:

First, don't make assumptions about what someone thinks or knows, but be clear about what your organization requires of them.

• Compare the risks and rewards of a decision before choosing what to do.
• Trust your initial feelings so you don’t over-analyze things too much.
• Look at your situation from another perspective to think through it clearly.
• Ask someone you trust for feedback if you aren’t sure about your decision.
• Realize that it’s okay to make a wrong decision every now and then.
