WHAT IS SPICER CAPITAL? MY INVESTMENT JOURNEY: A BRIEF HISTORY

My passion for investing started when I made my first stock trade at the age of 12 (my mother kindly took my orders). My mom let me get the Wall Street Journal to study the pricing tables. At 21, I purchased my first rental property—I remember excusing myself from my FINN 4133 Advanced Investments class to make the bid-winning call.

In 2010, I graduated from the University of Arkansas with a B.S.B.A. in Finance; I began working for Northwestern Mutual. In 2012, I qualified for Million Dollar Round Table for the first time, an exclusive association representing the top 1% of the industry. A year later, I earned my Certified Financial Planner™ designation.

The following two years were a critical period of disappointing discovery (despite earning two more industry designations)… I came to realize that my personal investment strategy was incongruent with what I was supposed to, or even allowed to, recommend. I became increasingly uncomfortable with the industry-prescribed advice.
