Gathering 220: “Agents of Change – Gideon” // The Judges Worship Series // Rev. Tony Minear, Ph.D.

Who is Gideon? Old Testament accounts name him a prophet, and some goes as far as to say the greatest of all 15 judges found in the Old Testament. No doubt an agent of change, but did he act of his own accord? 

Imagine if you will, a showdown: The god of Israel versus Baal. As our country becomes more religiously pluralistic and tensions arise over this, what informs our response to this religious diversity and what role might we play? Jehoash, Gideon's father, proposed to let the gods sort out their own problems. But what to do when you believe your god wants you as a partner? 

Join us today as Pastor Tony explores what public discourse could look like concerning hotbed topics such as abortion, immigration, and politics if we left God out of it. Listen and ask yourself if we should we impose our beliefs on others? Do we really know what is just or the will of God? Why not, as Jehoash proposed, just let God sort it all out? Jesus modeled how to simply love our neighbors as ourselves. If God is behind that, why not speak to that love and leave God out of the discourse? Maybe it’s time we reexamine the impact of our words and apply our core common values today to became Agents of Change ourselves?
