What are the CREDENTIALS of a Messiah?  How do you answer this?  What AUTHORITY to you use as paramount?

You can see the Pharisees in today's passage all eagerly raising their hands to answer Jesus' question.  They all 'KNEW' the pat answer.  Whose son is the Messiah?  Easy answer:  DAVID's son.

So far so good.  But who is greater?  Who is more important? David or his son?  Tradition holds that David's son will be LESS THAN David himself.

So Jesus uses DAVID'S OWN WORDS in Psalm 110.  There David calls the coming Messiah "MY LORD".  That is as in, "this coming Messiah is my God, my King, and my LORD."  Even David, whom you hold as authoritative, points to the coming Messiah as his LORD.  That is, Jesus is greater than David.  Even David says so.

It is a drop the mic moment for the Pharisees.  Even David YIELDS to a King who will come in 1000 years.  Listen and see if we should too.
