Jesus gives a not-so coded message on the cross: Go read Psalm 22! Because of the air-hunger of crucifixion, He quotes the first and the last line. It is a psalm of difficulty, specifically referencing crucifixion, that ends in triumph.
It is not a psalm of abandonment. He has NOT despised. He has NOT abhorred. He has NOT hidden his face. He HAS heard. It is a testimony of intimacy between the Sufferer and the Father.
