Coach Sullinger Bio:
James "Satch" Sullinger
Athletics have always been part of Satch’s life, from childhood through his professional career, and into his service to our community today. He is a retired high school and college educator and championship coach. Mr. Sullinger is a local basketball legend and father of Jared Sullinger, a member of the NBA’s Boston Celtics and former All-American at The Ohio State University.
Satch has received numerous Ohio Coach of the Year Awards and he was selected from “Who's Who Among Black in Central Ohio” as the "Living Legend 2015”. He is the first black in the history of America to become a full time administrator with the Olympic Sports.
Mr. Sullinger obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Oberlin College in 1978 and completed a Master’s of Science degree with Grambling State University in 1981.
Putting people together with purpose is Satch’s strength and calling. Mr. Sullinger is a master motivator: he stands for family, building character and doing things the right way. Mr. Sullinger continues to speak at coaches and youth clinics across the country. He is the author of Winning with Purpose: Raising Our Game and Lifting Our Teammates, On and Off the Court. Satch serves as Chairperson of the Board of Master Preparatory Academy, a boarding school being created to focus on meeting the needs of Ohio's black male youths.
Satch is proudly married with three sons and five grandchildren.
