Out of everyone here, there are
those who found pockets of peace today
and those who could not.
Among us, there are
those whose hearts lifted
at the song of a bird
from a newly opened window.
And those who heard and closed the window
because the bird’s joy was so at odds with
our sorrow.
Do you hear the birdsong
right now, where you are?
If you don’t, it’s okay.
Stay here with us.
We’ll wait till you do.
