In July 2016, 15-year-old Jaquin Thomas went with his uncle to an apartment for a confrontation. Jaquin, whom everyone knew as a helpful, kind teen, carried a gun that day. According to his uncle and witnesses, Jaquin shot 24-year-old Hasahn Shawl to death that day. Not long after the crime, Jaquin himself was lost while awaiting trial in adult prison.
