Ever wonder what it would be like if your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man ended up in the Scottish highlands? Why on Earth would the wallcrawler go to Scotland? The short answer is that the cartoonist wanted him to. Back in 1990, Charles Vess was that cartoonist, and the Marvel Graphic Novel series would give him his chance to tell this very peculiar tale. This week on Bloodbath we look back at The Amazing Spider-Man: Spirits of the Earth.







Released as volume 63 of the MGN series, Spirits of the Earth begins with Spidey’s bride, Mary Jane, finding out she has inherited a castle. This prompts the couple to take a second honeymoon to Scotland, only to find out that the castle is haunted! A ghostly knight torments Spider-Man in an attempt to evict him and his beautiful wife. The plot thickens when the Scottish branch of the Hellfire Club gets involved and all hell breaks loose.
