In episode #17 of Drums and Rums, where the backbeats meet the spirits. In this episode, I catch up with Jamey Bennett of Royal Ruckus.
Jamey and I first crossed paths when I was in an acoustic project then a few years later he hit me up about performing live with him. We met up to discuss while checking out Biz Markie at an end of season equestrian party.
Since then I've backed my man on percussion on what i now refer to my mini kit. Kick pedal on a Cajon and an 8" snare hanging off a hi hat stand.
He talks about getting hooked on beats by learning drums at an early age from teachers such as Eddie Money's drummer Johnny Snider, how he got into hip hop and rap, some of the projects he's working on and a little bit about his faith.
We also sample some rum. El Dorado a 12 year old rum from Guyana and an offering Hazelnut Spice rum from Rogue Ales. You may be familiar with their craft beer.
Here's our opening track "U Know Who I Am" by Royal Ruckus and DJ Sean P.
