After a winter shutdown the Avenue Red Podcast gets an increment via a fresh, punchy, stripped back Tech House session from a young DJ from Lima, Peru known as Meneses (real name Luis Meneses). At only 20 years old Meneses has already found some acclaim in his vast Pacific-coast city, most notably as a member of the Undersound Peru collective, which attracts a proper underground following of musically clued-up party people to Casa Galeria El Tábano - one of the key nightclubs in the Peruvian capital. This is the first mix we have featured from a South American DJ and were very interested to hear what it would contain when it appeared in the inbox... considering that you can hear it for yourself here, clearly we liked it!
This is a smooth ride through some very direct, minimalistic and bare-boned clubby tracks that resemble cold, steel frameworks encrusted with their own characteristic embellishments. Picture each track as being like a unique electricity pylon structure (beats) decorated with it's own selection of subtle lights that shimmer and glow in a haze (synths/melodies/other elements)... hearing the set is like staring out of a fast moving train window, seeing them drift past your gaze: a consistently flowing image made of seamlessly connected entities, gently floating and modulating by with a beautifully kaleidoscopic quality. Just relax and let it wash over you.
"I like to focus on pushing music from fresh artists who deliver quality, punchy, groovy tracks with spaced out deepness. The night, the darker hours, the distant city lights flickering... it's my inspirational zone where I really get into the music. I search create a unique and electric atmosphere in my sets, music that drives forwards in the club yet also sounds great in the headphones. This mix was recorded with 2 x Vestax CDX05 with 1 and an Allen & Heath XONE:92 mixer. I hope you enjoy the tunes!" Luis Meneses, January 2017
