Avenue Red Podcast #045 - DJ Jes

The 45th Avenue Red Podcast comes from Chicago House music veteran, DJ Jes. Born in Mexico and raised in Chicago, Jes has been exposed to the vibrant Chicago music culture since the early 80's. It was very early on when he realised his passion for music and began working on his musical career. Growing up on the West side of Chicago he saw his peers choosing a lifestyle of gangs and guns, with daily activity of violence and crime. Embracing his negative childhood exposure, Jes chose a different road, using that negative to propel him into a life of musical expression.

Twenty five years later, Jes is still continuing his path of musical creativity. Since his first EP on Chicago Groove in 1995 Jes has developed a rich discography on some great labels such as NRK, Afterhours, Camouflage, Tango, Siesta, Concrete Music and his own imprint Fresca Recordings to name a few. Also notable is a more recent 2014 release on Tardis, a young label run by Oscar Schubaq & Eli Verveine. His presence on the old West Coast US House mainstay labels is particularly strong and it seems Jes has kept the essence of that incredible era of House music as part of his modern-day production style.

As a DJ, the Chicago underground has been moved by DJ Jes for over 25 years and he was an original House pioneer who played at Chicago's infamous House & Techno club "The Warehouse". Jes has the technical skills and musical talent to give us all the soulful energy that only music can communicate. The recent venture of Jes's label, Fresca recordings, has with its Twentieth release received well-deserved media and industry attention. Jes continues to showcase and collaborate with other talented producers world-wide, having previously worked on music with many true legends including Tyree Cooper, Fast Eddie, Robert Owens and Justin Long among others.
