We’re wrapping up another week with a consumer revelation about the Auto Industry, JP Morgan’s performance may be signaling a softer economic landing that the rhetoric suggests, KBB releases their annual Brand Image Report, and one kid designs a voting sticker that will make you cringe (and laugh).

  • JP Morgan performance is NOT clearly signaling a downturn
    • Second-quarter profit at JPMorgan JPM -3.49%▼ Chase & Co. fell 28% from a year earlier even as the nation’s largest bank said it is seeing few signs that a recession is imminent, underscoring the uncertainty looming over markets and the economy.
    • JPMorgan’s performance is typically viewed as a barometer on the broader economy given the bank’s insights into consumer and corporate financial health
    • Take Away: The news should only be a portion of your barometer. Many sources are more level headed about financial futures than mainstream media may be portraying.
  • KBB brand image awards
    • Tesla taking top spots in the luxury category
    • Honda maintaining best brand presence
    • The awards are crowd sourced from over 12000 opinions and the annual Brand Watch Study by KBB
    • Take Away: Must feel good to be a Honda dealer right now!
  • “I Voted” spider
    • Ulster County, NY held a contest for their new ‘I Voted’ sticker and would have never expected the results they got.
    • One of six finalists, the drawing by 14 year-old Hudson Rowan obtained over 90% of the popular vote.
    • The image went viral across the internet, leading to the overwhelming win.
    • “The county’s election commissioners, Republican John P. Quigley and Democrat Ashley Dittus, acknowledged that they chose Rowan’s design as one of six finalists because they knew it would get attention, especially on the internet, and in turn boost voter turnout.”
    • Take Away: If you think culture is predictable, you’re not paying attention
