Everything starts with people. From the moment someone joins your department, you can set up automations that listen for this, adds them to a SharePoint group giving them access to resources they need, sends them a welcome email with links to onboarding resources, signs them up with appropriate mailing lists, adds them to the department org chart, creates a space for them to add their biography.
