Its base ingredient is often ground beef. However, you can use turkey, chicken or buffalo. you can buy the sauce in a can...or make your own using onions, tomato sauce, brown sugar, bbq sauce and spices..then serve it up on a hamburger bun or roll. Be sure to grab more than one napkin! There are different claims to the origin of the sloppy Joe....but the one most people believe is from Havana, Cuba, in the 1930s, there was a genuine bartender who gained popularity with vacationers who went by the name of Sloppy Joe. He earned his name for his less than enthusiastic way of cleaning the bar.  He was, however, an attentive bartender...who served this delicious sandwich to american vacationers who brought the recipe back to america.
