A reading of an essay written by Dr Jack De Havas, a neuroscientist studying how the brain controls movement.
Two ideas ascendant in the culture are making us question the nature of reality. The ManyWorlds Interpretation (MWI) of quantum mechanics posits that alternate dimensions exist, while the Simulation Argument states that probabilistically we are currently living in a simulation. On the surface these two ideas are not linked. They spring from different fields of science and philosophy and are not formerly connected. These psychological effects carry a hidden cost, which is best revealed through an analysis of how the MWI and Simulation hypothesis are dealt with in fiction.
