Arinna opens the day of mindfulness by contextualizing taking refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha:

"So when we take refuge in the Buddha, that's what we're taking refuge in — that like him and other other beings who attained the equivalent of Buddhahood, like Kuan Yin or Tara — we too have that capacity. And, even when there's some doubt as you hear that, your doubt isn't as big as that unworded intuition that it's true. Because otherwise, you wouldn't be in this room. So, we take refuge in that heritage, in that possibility, and in the moments that we have already experienced which indicate something larger than the normal habitual minds that we live with — we take refuge in that."
