Another Reason I Can't Be A 1st Amendment Auditor is my videos would be way too long. I don't think the people that encounter 1st amendment Auditors learn their lesson after the first time. In my opinion there should always be at least 3 visits to every place that had a bad interaction with a 1st amendment Auditor. People don't always learn there lesson after the first time so you need to go back and give them a few extra classes and then in a few months a refresher course. If not I think all the people who try to violate 1st amendment Auditors rights will think they can act crazy and they'll come back and exercise their rights. Which seems true. For them it will just be "that day" a crazy person with a camera came by, period. Just like if the 1st amendment Auditor leaves right after the cops leave and never come back, how does that look? It looks like the cops came talked to them and got them to leave. See I would be out there for hours after the cops left. My videos would be hours long. I wouldn't want the people I'm Auditing to think that the police scared me off or that they scared me off by calling the police. I have a theory that some 1st amendment Auditors are afraid to stick around longer because the police did scare them and they figured if they got away with it once they don't want to press their luck again with the police. Because most Auditors are not necessarily afraid of the police, they are afraid of the consequences. They don't want to go to jail for exercising their rights, which is ridiculous.
There are so many reasons I can't and won't be a 1st Amendment auditor. The number one reason for me is that its dangerous. If I go the rest of my life and never talk to a police officer or have to call the police I would consider that a blessing. So to volunteer to talk to the police seems extremely dangerous. Also there are a lot of crazy people out there and you never know what there going to do. The second reason is I don't think I could take what many Auditors take. Like people constantly invading their personal space and talking to them rude and aggressive and disrespectful. Also I definitely couldn't take a person touching me because I'm recording in public. Also all the arguing and confrontations wouldn't be good for my mental or physical health. Some of these Auditors treat their camera like it gives them super powers or makes them weapon proof. Ans if someone talks to me crazy on an audit I'm going to talk crazy back. So it would be a mess, but I'm sure it would be entertaining.
I think 1st amendment Auditing is a very useful thing for everyone. It keeps government officials accountable. It teaches the public about the 1st amendment and other laws. It shows how the world really is. That there are bullies, and very entitled people that think they have power everywhere. You would think with so many 1st amendment Auditing videos out there that more people would be educated on public photography laws and the 1st amendment. I definitely would think that the police would know by now, even though they should have already known. Many police officers are well versed in the law as they should be, while others seem.to not know anything about the law. Some of these videos have been viewed millions of times and the are hundreds of 1st amendment Auditors out there.I don't see these videos slowing down any time soon I just see them picking up.
