Started by the legally blind snake oil salesman Shoko Asahara, Aum Shinrikyo was a Japanese death cult whose members were guilty of dozens of violent attacks, many involving chemical weapons they manufactured themselves like Sarin gas, VX and anthrax. Hoping to cause the beginning of World War III between the USA and China, Aum would author a devastating Sarin attack on the Tokyo Subway in 1995. Though formally rebranded and disbanded, many members continue to meet and the violence hasn't subsided even today.
