Much more important than the Guru's protection, in practical terms, are other ways the guru helps us: Teachings and techniques that guide our lives and give us a step-by-step path to the realization of our own divine nature. Second, the guru's magnetism subtly transforms our consciousness. The more we open ourselves to him, the more he can influence our awareness. And, finally, his love and divine promise are the greatest gift of all.
