Listening to Your Life: Finding God in Unexpected Places. Pets and Community. A Spacious Christianity, First Presbyterian Church of Bend, Oregon

See your life for the fathomless mystery it is, paying attention to the boredom and pain of life. Pay attention to the excitement and gladness of life. Touch taste, feel, smell, see your way to the holy and hidden heart of life. Because in the last analysis, all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace. 

While we are looking for God in those large, bright and unmistakably holy places, God is hidden in plain sight. Right there in the midst of the nitty gritty of our everyday lives. Look around. Listen carefully. peer into your heart. What do you see? What do you feel? What do you hear? What do you find? Where are the unexpected places where we might encounter God? As we embrace the rhythms of summer, may we engage holy curiosity. Holy curiosity disrupts despair. Holy curiosity invites compassion. Holy curiosity opens the door to new possibilities. May we listen to our lives hoping to find God's presence in unexpected ways.
