Lesson 305: There is Peace that Christ Bestows on Us.

Christ bestows upon us a peace so profound that nothing in the world compares to it—a peace "so deep and quiet, undisturbable and wholly changeless." Unlike the conditional calm we might experience when external circumstances align with our preferences, this peace transcends all worldly understanding and remains eternally still regardless of what appears to be happening around us.

The remarkable truth is that this peace is already present. We don't need to manufacture it or earn it; our only task is to accept it. When suffering arises—and it will as long as we identify with the body—we can recognize it as an opportunity to return to truth. As Hope Johnson explains, we aren't actually capable of suffering; rather, suffering arises in our experience as a result of believing in the thought of separation. When we notice suffering, we can bring those thoughts to the Holy Spirit, recognizing they have no justification or basis in reality.

The ego mind constantly engages in comparisons—better or worse, more or less, safer or more dangerous—but Christ's peace dissolves all comparison because it is whole and complete. This peace doesn't violently attack the world we've made; instead, it "envelops it and gently carries it to the truth." It's a nonviolent healing that undoes fear through love rather than force.

God wills peace for us, and it is our natural state. The only obstacles blocking our awareness of this peace are self-judgment and its projection onto others. When we consent to be released from judgment, we make space to recognize the peace that has always been there. Try beginning each day by feeling this peace in your body, perhaps with the affirmation "There's peace that Christ bestows on me now." Throughout the day, whenever peace seems disturbed, remember there is no actual disturbance—you are dreaming. The peace of Christ cannot be disturbed; it only appears so when we choose to judge.
