Lesson 289 from A Course in Miracles teaches us that the past has no independent reality and can only touch us if we continue to project it forward through our thoughts.
• The past exists only as memory patterns that we project, keeping us blinded to the real world
• Forgiveness isn't about changing the past but dissolving its hold on us
• When we forgive, grievances stop projecting forward and we enter the present moment
• Without the past, there's no guilt because guilt is a past-based identity
• God's truth says we are as He created us always, not what we once did
• Letting go of the past is the final preparation for God's last step
• Practice visualizing yourself setting down a heavy bag labeled "past"
• When memories surface, ask: "Is this happening now or am I choosing to relive what's over?"
• Living without a past means living without self-condemnation
• Meet every face as new and recognize your heart as innocent
The past is over. It can touch me not.
