Episode 18 Part 2 Darnell Edwards on Empowering Youth and Transforming Communities

In this inspiring episode of A Brighter Day Outreach, host Beverly Knox Davis — founder and president of A Brighter Day Outreach and the Historic Hoskins Coalition Group — sits down with Darnell Edwards, a lifelong Charlottean, servant leader, and founder of Joshua Christian Leadership Academy. Together, they explore powerful stories of hope, healing, and transformation in the Historic Hoskins community.

Darnell shares how his parents instilled in him the value of servant leadership from a young age — serving before leading, and continuing to serve even when life’s circumstances are tough. With deep roots in Charlotte, an extensive background in youth ministry, community outreach, and education (including a Master’s in Urban Education and current PhD studies), Darnell has dedicated his life to creating solution-driven programs that empower youth.

Listeners will hear about the vision behind Joshua Education — a nonprofit that blends arts, Christian leadership, and culturally responsive teaching to help young people discover their God-given purpose. Inspired by scripture and fueled by creativity, the organization equips “scholars” with tools to overcome challenges, build confidence, and see themselves in the material they’re learning.

This episode also highlights an exciting partnership: A Brighter Day Outreach and Joshua Education’s first Vacation Bible School, happening August 14–16 at “the hub.” Designed for students in grades 3–12, the VBS will focus on winning the “battle in the mind” with engaging activities, affirmation projects, and faith-based guidance for making wise choices.
