Lesley Stewart Armstrong understands change. She understands proactivity. She understands that you must actively and continually level-up. After doing "all the right things" she was told to not mention how long she had been in the textile industry (an industry she loves and has given her heart to) because it would put a target on her back.
And it did. Suddenly, her experience was forgotten, she was sidelined. Instead of the Vice President title she had been performing toward, she could not even get hired for positions she'd already held. What was going on? In a word? Ageism. In the most blatant of ways.
Luckily, she is good at trusting her gut. When she realized the company that she had given 50-hour week for YEARS was no longer giving back, she knew it was time to go. Painful, yes. Smart, also yes.
The split from the company was painful, but so necessary. Another company snapped her up. A company who CELEBRATES her experience, who PRAISES her expertise, who VALUES that she still has much to contribute and much to learn.
