The New York Giants brought in free agent guard Greg Van Roten for a visit, as reported by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Van Roten, who played for offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo last year with the Raiders, started all 17 games, allowed five sacks (the ninth most in the NFL), and logged a 75.3 PFF grade. An undrafted free agent from UPenn, Van Roten has also played for the Packers, Seahawks, Jaguars, Jets, Bills, and the CFL's Toronto Argonauts. At 34 years old, he could fit in as a veteran familiar with Bricillo’s system or as a potential starter, moving Eluemunor back to right tackle and himself to right guard, positions they played together last year in Las Vegas. This would allow Jon Runyan Jr. to return to his preferred left guard spot.
Darren Waller recently defended Daniel Jones against critics on SiriusXM NFL Radio, expressing excitement for Jones to get another opportunity. Waller argued that Jones gets a bad reputation, noting his strong performance in 2022 and the tough circumstances he faced in 2023, including poor offensive line protection. Waller believes Jones is a talented and athletic player who can shine again if given proper support, adding that Jones is motivated and ready to lead.
Darius Slayton, while on the All Facts No Brakes Podcast with Keyshawn Johnson, hinted that he sensed Darren Waller might retire during last season. Slayton often teased Waller, asking for "one more year," but Waller frequently expressed doubt about having it in him, suggesting to Slayton that he was nearing the end of his career.
There is speculation that Joe Schoen did not want Saquon Barkley on the Giants in 2024. In an interview snippet released on the "Scoop City Podcast," Barkley revealed he believed it was over after a particular phone call and felt the Giants were not willing to match his value. Schoen's hypothetical offer to Barkley was a 3-year deal worth $37.5 million with $25 million guaranteed, while the Eagles offered Barkley $37.8 million with $26 million guaranteed. Despite increasing offers to ensure other players like Jon Runyan Jr., Jermain Eleumenor, and Drew Lock stayed away from rival teams, Schoen did not match the Eagles' offer for Barkley, raising questions about his intentions.
