Why does mochi feel so good in my mouth?

Mia ventured out from her house for the first time in months to get mochi from Fugetsu-do, a 117 year old mochi shop in the Little Tokyo section of downtown LA. 

She tries to figure out what makes the pillow-y goodness of mochi so good. It may be her new favorite desert even though it can apparently kill people.
